Why we do it

Zanzibar, Tanzania is one of the world’s most impoverished communities. With an average income of 100 USD per month, families often struggle with providing food on the table. How can you focus in school when you are hungry?

Since January of 2023 Zanzibar Student Aid Food Project has consistently provided the students of St. Barnabas a school meal to enjoy. All food ingredients are sourced from local shopkeepers who prepare the school cook’s orders the night before. Students are asked to collect some firewood on their way to school in the morning so that the school cook may to begin her task of preparing a meal for all of the students and staff. By noon lunch is served from youngest to oldest.

The project has been such a success that school enrollment numbers have increased since the news has spread. Donations made towards this not only feed students, but also support the surrounding shopkeepers of the community.

Sponsor a school meal for 60 USD. This will feed a school of 130 students and 10 staff.
